3) a. I am a Molecular and Cellular Biology major, the three most important professional organizations within my field are the American Medical Association, American Academy of Microbiology, and the Endocrine Society.

b. The top three important journals that are read by Biologists are the "New England Journal of Medicine," "JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association," and "BMJ: The British Medical Journal."

c. Three important online discussion lists that are read by Biologists are "bionet.virology," "alt.internet.services," and "sci.anwsers."

d. The next major professional meeting by the AIBS (American Institute of Biological Sciences) corporation will be in December, specifically December 13th. It will be located within Utah, and is sponsored by a multitude of different corporations.

e. 1) One major discovery currently being conducted within the Biological sciences would be the research into bees. Currently, the bee population is decreasing at an increasing rate, and conservative measure are being put in place in order to slow down this effect. Research currently conducted includes research into how bees pollinate, and how reproductive measures can be increased to increase bee population.

2) Fungus is a topic that is currently under heavy inspection by the Biology community, as fungus can be detrimental to plants and can harm the growth of gardens. On the contrary, new research is being conducted that is discovering positive effects of fungus; fungus can actually increase growth within partnering plants. Research is also being conducted into the detrimental factors of fungus, the research shows that the fungus can inhibit a key protein within plants that helps their immune system. Due to these factors, fungus is harmful to plants.

3) Recently the population of butterflies within the UK have been on a rapid decline. Research conducted currently show that the extreme effects have caused this decrease of butterfly population. This, in part, is due to the global warming that has had a harsh effect on the world. With increasingly variable weather patterns comes a detrimental effect on biodiversity, we see organisms being adversely impacted. Thus, conservation methods are incredibly important to be put in place, as they can result in a  positive impact on butterfly population and biodiversity.
