DD13HW7

I learned a lot of the organization that is possible by reviewing my peer's projects. In addition I learned of the importance of self review and self editing. My peers had little errors in their document that could be easily fixed if they had one or two read throughs. I believe that I need to go through this in my own document; I need to go through my document once or twice and look for minor errors that I would not find with a simple skim through.

DD13HW1

Ethical Considerations:
1) Rights: In order to protect the rights of all individuals involved in the product, it is imperative that we highlight exactly how we intend to include all group members in on project. In addition, we need to be aware of the ethical considerations that could be violated within a group project and do our best to prevent it from happening.
2) Utility: I don't believe that there are any utility concerns for this project, the product will likely not negatively impact us in the future.
3) Care: I believe that this project is actually productive in terms of its care; it panders to groups that are not being considerate to each other and builds relationships between members that will last for a while.
4) Justice: The costs and benefits of this action would not be negative; in fact it would be positive in handing out equal responsibility between a group. Within this project we are attempting to create equality.

I need to watch out to be considerate of all individuals in the group that are collaborating in the group that we are addressing. I will double check by peer reviewing the project that we are creating and reading it multiple times. In my future career I will need to be considerate of ALL of these ethical considerations and pander to all individuals who I will be working with and encounter. I believe that honesty and integrity is the one thing I'll have to maintain in order to follow these ethical considerations and be true to myself. Plagiarism and authorship can easily be avoided in any profession as long as citation is provided. If an individual is to use another person's work, the least they can do to follow ethical consideration is to cite and give the other person credit for their work.

Cerminaro, Anthony. "Solving Workplace Problems." BingBangBuzz. Anthony Cerminaro, 27 Apr. 2007. Web. 23 Nov. 2016.

-This is a printed source.

Authorship: I do not recognize the name of this author, however the source does provide credentials of the author and his current position. This leads me to believe that the source is incredibly reliable for use in research.

Publisher: The publisher is not that credible, "BingBangBuzz" does not have a good stigma around its name. The editorial staff is not well known, however after reading this article I was led to believe that the source is relatively credible and provides a new view on topics that have not been shown before.

Knowledge of the Literature: Having used this source within the annotated bibliography and in within my research, I am led to believe that the author does have a good grasp of the literature. There is a bibliography provided that cites the sources that are used within this literature, every single piece of information is properly cited if needed. In addition, there are little notes that are scattered throughout the document that help with the cohesiveness of the literature.

Accuracy and Verifiability of the Information: The information is NOT based on assumptions, and is rather reliant on sound logic and information. The author does describe the methods and theories that are being used in production of the information, the statistics are properly cited and are mostly double blind studies. The author does use sound reasoning to back up the information he is putting forward, albeit little reasoning is used within the article. The limitations are not listed within the article, as it is more informative than most articles I have read.

Timeliness: The document does rely on recent studies and data that have been provided by work space studies. The document was not published recently, it was published in 2007, however the information transcends time.

Berghoff, Federkeil. "The Guidelines Project : Providing Instruments for Evaluating Development                                          Research." Evaluating Research Teams. Guidelines Project, 2009. Web. 13 Nov. 2016.

Authorship: In terms of authorship, this source is lacking marginally. I do not recognize the name of the author, and the source does not describe the author's credentials. However, I am able to find the information of this author easily by doing a little research as the author has extensive credentials. The source is valid, but it does not put much effort into its Authorship.

Publisher: The publisher is incredibly reputable; the publisher is actually responsible for numerous studies being conducted on work space ethic and group work improvement. There is an entire "movement" of which the publisher is responsible which attacks work space issues and attempts to resolve them in the best way possible. The author is incredibly scholarly and the publisher is scholarly as well as the publisher is responsible for many studies in the field of psychology. The editorial board members are not "well known," however after looking through their credentials it is obvious that they are a worthy source for the information I need. I don't believe that there are special interests involved in the production of this study as the study itself is incredibly neutral in opinion. I truly believe that the publisher is attempting to create an informative piece that can be used by many.

Knowledge of the Literature: The author does seem to be incredibly knowledgable about the material and the topic. The author writes extensively about the issues being covered in the journal and is very reliable for the material being discussed. This is a scholarly, peer reviewed journal, thus there is an extensive bibliography available in the end of the study. There are also notes  throughout the document that annotate the necessary information that is not discussed in the actual journal.

Accuracy and Verifiability of the Information: the information is not based on assumptions, most of the information is backed up by actual studies being conducted in the field. In addition, the author does describe the methods and theories that are in place to get the information being discussed. There is minimal "reasoning" placed in this journal, however the author seems to use sound reasoning wherever needed. The author does not, however, explain limitations of the information, and rather just gives us every reason to believe his information. I do not believe that this detracts from the overall fluidity of the information.

Timeliness: The document is incredibly recent, it was published in 2009; I do not believe that the work dynamic has changed drastically since 2009; everything seems to be consistent. The document was not published recently, but the data is still prevalent today.

Berghoff, Federkeil. "The Guidelines Project : Providing Instruments for Evaluating Development                   Research." Evaluating Research Teams. Guidelines Project, 2009. Web. 13 Nov. 2016.

This scholarly peer reviewed journal is an essential tool in any collaborative writer. In order for the writer to be effective with his or her team, this journal suggests that the writer be with his or her team every step of the way. In order for the team to be effective the individuals within the team must be collaborative with every tool in their possession and be willing to share it with their team.

Cohen, S. "What Makes Teams Work: Group Effectiveness Research from the Shop Floor to the Executive Suite." Journal of Management 23.3 (1997): 239-90. Web.

Cohen writes a journal effectively showing exactly how group effectiveness increases with slight changes in attitude and environment. In order for the group to be collaborative, there are certain actions that can be taken by the individuals to increase productivity. Cohen backs up his information with data and peer reviewed research. This makes Cohen's journal incredibly reliable and effective to any collaborator.

UNC. "Group Writing." The Writing Center at UNCChapel Hill Comments. UNC, 1994. Web. 13 Nov.   2016.
The United Chapel Hill college provides an accessible website that includes a plethora of information that pertains to the audience in question, writers who are just beginning their career. In addition, the UNC backs up this data with many forms of research that have empirically been effective. UNC has a website that is incredibly easy to read and informative.

Woods, Peter, Bob Jeffrey, Geoff Troman, Mari Boyle, and Barry Cocklin. "Team and Technology in Writing up Research." British Educational Research Journal 24.5 (1998): 573-92. Web.

Peter Woods writes a journal with his peers that attacks an issue that is less talked about within articles pertaining to the subject at hand. In order for the group to be effective they must be willing to use the technology in their arsenal. Peter Woods outlines the necessary technology that any group needs and shows the reader how to implement this technology into their group work.

Rhetorical Situation:
The purpose of this document is to write a column about visualization in Molecular and Cellular Biology that would appear within some sort of newspaper article or journal. The audience would be a scientifically literate community who are avid subscribers of the newspaper in question. It is likely that the readers would read it on a hard page newspaper rather than on a mobile devise. Thus I formatted it to be more like a newspaper column with a single visual showing the information in question.

Ethics:
1) Rights: This concern's the people's needs and welfare. I believe that I avoided violating this ethical issue by making sure that I didn't include other's information or violating their rights in any way.
2) Utility: This includes the positive or negative effects that the column could have on others. I believe that I abided by this ethical issue by making sure that the column had a positive, informative effect rather than a negative damaging effect.
3) Care: This includes the relationships between people. This column was simply informative and did not have any information on the relationships of others.

Project:
I am proud of myself for organizing the column and including as much information as I did. I was surprised at the fact that the work I did for the past couple due dates had a direct correlation with the information I would be inserting into the column. I wish I could make it more fitting towards a newspaper article than simply a column that was made in Google Docs. Ideally I could format an entire column into a newspaper article to make it more contextually accurate. I got stuck with inserting a visual, however after much research and Googling I found the necessary information and visuals.

Learning:
I used Google Docs and Google for this project. They were appropriate as they opened the field of research to me; I was able to research the necessary information with ease and find results in seconds. I had already known the applications and didn't need much new knowledge on said technology. I learned the ease at which a column can be made; I hope to learn how to format it into the context of a newspaper article. I would use these two technologies for any research projects or creation of creative projects. One personal goal that I achieved was being able to use rhetorical concepts to create a technical text, I did so by rough drafting the column and completing the column in its entirety. Another goal I achieved was managing and implementing multiple streams of information through a rhetorical piece. I did so by creating the column and using the researched information and implementing them effectively in the column. Lastly, I critiqued and evaluated a multimedia text with technical content by drafting and editing my own column using the provided means of editing. In addition I implemented these edits into my final drafts effectively. One personal goal I accomplished was being able to expand the forms of literature that I utilize. I did so by expanding my reach of literature into newspaper articles. I learned that I have a wider reach of literature than I previously expected. I am able to create a whole host of different streams of media, including a newspaper!

1. Visualization within Molecular and Cellular Biology is vastly utilized and incredibly useful.
Within Molecular and Cellular Biology, visualization is vastly utilized and incredibly useful.

3. Graphs can be utilized when trying to observe trends or represent the data in an aesthetic manner.
The utilization of graphs can be useful when attempting to observe the different trends or representations of data with an aesthetic manner.

4. Molecular and Cellular Biology is a field riddled with complex processes which need pictures to be portrayed to a general audience.
Pictures are often necessary within Molecular and Cellular Biology in order to portray complex processes to a general audience.

5. Animations are often overlooked within the scientific community, as animations require an expertise beyond that of which is available to biologists.
Animations have their own spot in the scientific community, as they make their own place in a field that does not have much expertise in the area.

6. If an author would like to represent the data in a faulty way that supports his hypothesis, he will do so without remorse.
An author can easily represent the data they obtain in a faulty way that would support their hypothesis, this is called confirmation bias.

DD8HW5

I believe that my citations are correct, the only issue would be the indentations. They aren't easily possible within Google Docs and require a new method of doing so. The order of information was incorrect, I believe that they should be alphabetically organized. Everything else seems to be accurate, however.

From reading through these drafts, I learned the importance of organization in information pieces of texts. I learned that visual pieces of literature can be used in any profession and can tie pieces of data together. I also saw the use of actual visual aids within the columns, attaching visuals into the column could make the piece excellent to read.

1) Bar Graphs: If you clump certain data together, or not use the right axes incrementation, you can alter the data to be more in your favor. You will have researcher bias all over your paper.
2) Line Graphs: You can change the order of the X axes in order to make a trend that isn't actually apparent within the data. Line Graphs are great for trends and are also great for making up trends that don't exist whatsoever.
3) Pictures: Pictures are great visualization techniques that a researcher can use in order to visually represent the experiment they are conducting. However, research bias can be apparent, the researcher could possibly not take an accurate picture of what they "should" take a picture of, or they could simply alter the pictures to their own liking.
4) Animations: Animations are excellent ways that a researcher can visually represent how a process OCCURS, however, they could insert researcher bias by not including the correct animations. Animations are obscure as they allow a researcher to do as they please.

2) Line Graphs
3) Pictures
4) Animations

These static visualization strategies are often used within scientific journals in order to properly convey data that is not easily readable to the common reader. In order to make data more accessible, a researcher could use these visualization methods to make sure that the reader can easily understand the data they are being given. You would likely find these methods within a journal that you pick up in a local store; if it is pertinent to some sort of scientific topic it will likely have a plethora of these static visualization techniques.

In Professor Raymond J. Wegmann's scientific article "Cellular and Molecular Biology," (January 6th, 2016) he defines the field of Molecular and Cellular Biology, giving definitional information into the field and the possibilities one has as a Biologist. He also outlines his own work into the field and how he has delved further into the field. To conclude, he outlines a number of different studies being conducted at the moment that are furthering the field. He seems to have a scientifically literate audience in mind as he uses jargon that is specific to the scientific field.

In Lena Voith's article, "Gene Regulation," (November 3rd, 2016), she discusses the new research into gene regulation and gene alteration. Gene splicing is an upcoming field within Biology, and the amount of research being conducted into it is immense. In order to explain these new studies, she cites several researchers around the world that are working into this issue. To conclude, she quotes one of the researchers, who states that the new research has incredible possibilities, anything could happen. She seems to have a scientifically literate audience in mind who are interested in these new studies.

DD7HW1 Citation Style

The citation style that I will be using within Molecular and Cellular Biology would be most pertinent to the APA General style. In order to cite studies within a research paper, I have often used APA style to cite the specific studies that I read in order to write the paper. In order to be published within a reputable paper, specific yet accurate citations are very necessary. Thus, I will be using APA citation style in order to cite my papers within MCB.
