Rhetorical Situation:
The purpose of this document is to write a column about visualization in Molecular and Cellular Biology that would appear within some sort of newspaper article or journal. The audience would be a scientifically literate community who are avid subscribers of the newspaper in question. It is likely that the readers would read it on a hard page newspaper rather than on a mobile devise. Thus I formatted it to be more like a newspaper column with a single visual showing the information in question.
Ethics:
1) Rights: This concern's the people's needs and welfare. I believe that I avoided violating this ethical issue by making sure that I didn't include other's information or violating their rights in any way.
2) Utility: This includes the positive or negative effects that the column could have on others. I believe that I abided by this ethical issue by making sure that the column had a positive, informative effect rather than a negative damaging effect.
3) Care: This includes the relationships between people. This column was simply informative and did not have any information on the relationships of others.
Project:
I am proud of myself for organizing the column and including as much information as I did. I was surprised at the fact that the work I did for the past couple due dates had a direct correlation with the information I would be inserting into the column. I wish I could make it more fitting towards a newspaper article than simply a column that was made in Google Docs. Ideally I could format an entire column into a newspaper article to make it more contextually accurate. I got stuck with inserting a visual, however after much research and Googling I found the necessary information and visuals.
Learning:
I used Google Docs and Google for this project. They were appropriate as they opened the field of research to me; I was able to research the necessary information with ease and find results in seconds. I had already known the applications and didn't need much new knowledge on said technology. I learned the ease at which a column can be made; I hope to learn how to format it into the context of a newspaper article. I would use these two technologies for any research projects or creation of creative projects. One personal goal that I achieved was being able to use rhetorical concepts to create a technical text, I did so by rough drafting the column and completing the column in its entirety. Another goal I achieved was managing and implementing multiple streams of information through a rhetorical piece. I did so by creating the column and using the researched information and implementing them effectively in the column. Lastly, I critiqued and evaluated a multimedia text with technical content by drafting and editing my own column using the provided means of editing. In addition I implemented these edits into my final drafts effectively. One personal goal I accomplished was being able to expand the forms of literature that I utilize. I did so by expanding my reach of literature into newspaper articles. I learned that I have a wider reach of literature than I previously expected. I am able to create a whole host of different streams of media, including a newspaper!
